About
Elizabeth Germann studied Textiles and Art Education at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. While studying at KU she took studio level weaving and structural fiber courses focusing on weaving, dying, and felt making. She continued studying fibers by taking workshops at Peters Valley Crafts Center. In the summer of 2009 she was chosen for the Weaving Studio Assistantship. Creating, learning, and working at Peters Valley gave her the confidence and development to further her art career. Her recent work focuses on hand dyed textiles ranging from felted scarves, woven fabric, sculptural fiber, and dye painted and printed fabric.
Elizabeth's artwork has been featured in galleries and sold at craft shows and shops in Kutztown, PA, Lancaster, PA, and Layton, NJ. Her passion for color and texture is showcased throughout all of her textile creations giving them a very unique and one-of-a-kind characteristic. She works with local alpaca fiber and merino top sheep's wool. The silks featured in her wet felted scarves are iridescent chiffon silk and silk organza. The unique quality of her artwork is developed by hand dying techniques and layering of materials and textures.
Elizabeth's passion for creating comes from a long line of craft making in her family. Growing up she learned from her great grandmother, grandmother, and mother. They taught her to sew, pin and combine colors and fabric. Her grandfather worked as an industrial craftsmen and opened a machine shop. Elizabeth currently works and lives in Central Pennsylvania. When she is not in her studio or teaching she enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling. She is inspired by culture, science, and the amazing world around us.
