Biography
Elizabeth Germann began her interest in fiber art when she was a child working with her Grandmother at a church quilting group. The group of quilters taught her how to pin, sew, and piece fabric together to make quilts for people in need. In college, Elizabeth learned more textile techniques including weaving, knotting, embroidery, felting, coiling, surface design, knitting, crocheting, and dying both natural and synthetic fiber. Her desire to create works of art using these various techniques took flight after taking fiber courses at Kutztown University and workshops at Peters Valley Craft Center. The combination of her hand dyed fabric and techniques allow her to layer color and materials to create unique pieces of artwork that
are-one-of-a-kind. Currently, her materials of choice are alpaca and silk and her technique to combine these fibers is felting. Felting is the act of subjecting wool fibers to water, soap, pressure, agitation and heat to produce a non-woven fabric.
